Electronic water stop, water damage protection system
Electronically controlled water damage protection system
We are proud to present a patented flood protection valve designed to protect rooms containing washing machines, dishwashers, and other appliances that automatically draw water from the water supply. Such appliances can potentially become a source of uncontrolled water leakage in the following situations:
- in the event of a rupture in the water supply hose,
- in case of leakage from internal parts (filter housing, washing machine drum, water pump, hoses, etc.),
- in the event of a failure of the water dosing and sampling system.
The device is an electronically controlled shut-off valve that is compact, easy to install, and highly reliable. Thanks to the unique technology of the water leak detector and the valve locking mechanism, it is possible to use a single AA battery (LR6 1.5V) as a power source.
The device's electronics draw power in monitoring mode, with a practically immeasurable current of less than 1 nA (1 x 10-9A).
It can therefore be assumed that virtually no current is drawn from the battery in monitoring mode. Current (0.45 A) is only consumed when the valve is activated (within a time of 0.1 seconds when the water supply is shut off).
The battery should therefore be replaced after the expiration of its service life (marked by the manufacturer on the battery casing). However, the expiration of the battery's service life does not necessarily mean that the battery is empty. Modern alkaline batteries have a lifespan of 4-7 years.
The specially developed, patented shape of the sensor, which ensures that it always returns to the correct working position after a free fall, guarantees that the sensor reliably detects water leaks on the surface to be protected. An additional advantage of this sensor design is that it remains insensitive to normal humidity or even splashes of water. This is particularly important when considering typical household cleaning.
Technical data
- Water pressure (maximum) 1.0 MPa = 10 bar (tested up to 15 bar)
- Valve inlet ¾ '' internal thread
- Valve drain ¾ '' external thread
The device can be used with both cold and hot water taps.
(can be used up to 70 ° C).
The valve housing is made of polyamide 6.6 and reinforced with 30% glass fibers. Compared to metal, this has the advantage that rust cannot form.
The food safety of this material has been confirmed by the manufacturer (DuPont).
Power supply: one LR6 1.5V (Mignon) alkaline battery (not included).
TIP: Please use only high-quality batteries – there are many good experiences with them.
For example, with batteries from manufacturers such as Philips, Varta, Energizer, and Duracell. These manufacturers offer a 4-year warranty on their batteries. When purchasing replacement batteries, pay attention to the manufacturer's warranty date (imprinted directly on the battery).
installation
The screw-on device makes attaching the unit to the tap incredibly easy. Please place the included gasket between the unit and the tap with the convex side facing upwards. The integrated dirt filter provides additional protection, preventing the valve flap from opening too far. Tighten the union nut securely by hand. (Adapters for other connections are available.)
The enclosed battery has a warranty date (e.g., 05/09 – meaning May 2009). This date is often stamped directly onto the base of the battery. Please note this date on the sticker included in the packaging and affix this sticker to the machine in a clearly visible location. The battery should be replaced by the date shown (i.e., only every 3-4 years). However, it is still necessary to check the battery's function regularly – at least every six months (see also: Quick Test – No Problem).
Extremely humid environments can shorten the lifespan of any battery. The depleted battery should, of course, be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
Since the device only requires a current pulse of 0.45 A for 0.1 seconds in case of emergency, and no measurable operating currents flow in standby mode, you can truly rely on the battery. Now all you need to do is remove the battery compartment lid, insert the included guaranteed fresh battery (we make sure of that...) according to the markings (+/-), seal the battery compartment with the self-adhesive transparent gasket, and close the lid again – DONE. The sensor is then placed on the floor near the machine or filter (ideally at the lowest point on sloping floors), and the device is installed. After, for example, testing the device, please be sure to place the sensor back on the floor; only there can it protect against water damage.
After installation, we ask that you perform a functional test of your device as described below:
Quick test – No problem
Move the switch flap to position A (normal state – the valve is open, water can flow). Then place the sensor in a small amount of water (0.5 mm is sufficient) – the switch flap will spring to position B (see also the diagram) – the water supply will be shut off directly at the tap.
After this test, please close the switch cover and place the sensor back on the floor. We recommend repeating this test every six months – better safe than sorry.
Important: This device is a shut-off valve for domestic use, providing additional mechanical water protection. The operating instructions of the washing machine and dishwasher manufacturers, as well as water filtration systems, must still be followed at all times, even after installing this device. Always turn off the water tap after the washing cycle is complete.
