Premium Dualis EM Water Filter – Limescale Protection, Activated Carbon Filtration, and EM Ceramic

The Premium Dualis EM Water Filter by CARBONIT® combines effective activated carbon filtration with limescale protection and EM ceramic. The filter cartridge has been developed for the reliable treatment of drinking water and unites several functions in one filter system: reduction of unwanted substances, limescale protection, and additional treatment of the water with EM ceramic.

Like the CARBONIT® NFP Premium EM and EM Puro activated carbon cartridges, the Premium Dualis EM also contains EM ceramic ("Effective Microorganisms"). The sequence of water treatment is logically coordinated: The water is first filtered through the activated carbon, and then comes into contact with the EM ceramic.

The filter cartridge is manufactured by the renowned CARBONIT® Filtertechnik GmbH. For its activated carbon filters, CARBONIT® relies on highly dense sintered coconut activated carbon. According to the manufacturer, production is monitored according to quality and environmental standards.

Limescale protection with integrated maicat® limescale protection granules

Inside the Premium Dualis EM filter cartridge are integrated maicat® limescale protection granules. They serve to reduce the formation of stubborn limescale deposits when the water is later heated.

In this process, tiny seed crystals are formed, onto which the hardening agent calcium can preferentially attach itself. This is intended to ensure that the calcium carbonate crystallizes less strongly on surfaces and is therefore less likely to adhere to heating elements.

Limescale protection for kettles, coffee machines, and other appliances

The integrated limescale protection can help significantly reduce limescale deposits in kettles, coffee machines, and other hot water appliances. This can reduce cleaning effort and help extend the service life of appliances.

However, in the case of very hard water, an increased magnesium content may still cause light, limescale-like residues. The limescale protection function does not change the structural properties of magnesium.

The limescale protection granules used are food-safe and biologically neutral.

EM ceramic and water treatment

The Premium Dualis EM uses the same activated carbon technology as the CARBONIT® NFP Premium EM. In addition, the filter cartridge is equipped with EM ceramic.

After the activated carbon filtration, the water comes into contact with the EM ceramic. The goal of this combination is an additional treatment of the filtered water. Many users describe the water after filtration as particularly pleasant and soft in taste.

Activated carbon filtration with coconut activated carbon

The heart of the Premium Dualis EM is a highly dense sintered activated carbon monoblock made from coconut shells.

The homogeneous structure of the sintered activated carbon creates a large internal surface area where various unwanted substances can be adsorbed. Depending on the source water and the substance, different substances can be reduced.

These include, among others, certain hydrocarbons and organic compounds. Activated carbon can, for example, contribute to the reduction of certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). However, the actual filter performance always depends on the specific substance, its concentration, and the conditions of the filter being used.

Removal of existing limescale deposits

With the described limescale treatment, microscopic gas bubbles, so-called micro-bubbles, can form in the water. These can help loosen existing limescale residues in kettles, coffee machines, and other hot water appliances or support their removal.

Premium Dualis EM or Premium Dualis?

The Premium Dualis EM also features EM ceramic.

Those who prefer to do without the EM ceramic can opt for the Premium Dualis instead. Both variants combine activated carbon filtration and limescale protection.

Notes on service life

The filter cartridge should be replaced after approximately 6 months or after filtering about 5,000 liters of water.

In the event of an increased load of suspended solids and dirt particles, the water flow may decrease prematurely. This is not necessarily a defect in the filter cartridge, but can indicate that the filter performance has already been exhausted by the particles absorbed. In this case, an earlier filter change may be advisable.

The filter cartridge is designed for a temperature range of 2 °C to a maximum of 35 °C.
