Wondering whether you should get a water filter? Here are a few facts about why it's a good idea.
1.) Costs: Germans are drinking more water every year, mostly from bottles. Even Coca-Cola is generating increasing sales with its water brands Appolinaris, Vio, Glacéau smartwater, and Aquarius. A lot of money can be made this way, because water is comparatively cheap here, whereas bottled mineral water is not. So, you'll save a lot of money by filtering your own water.
2.) Time, energy, and the environment: You no longer have to lug crates and return deposit bottles when you filter your own water. More time for more important things.
If you filter your own water, you also reduce the burden on the environment because your water bottles are no longer being carted around.
3.) Health: Tap water and mineral water have specific limits for certain pollutants. Why? Because these pollutants are present in the water.
For tap water, these limits are even stricter than for mineral water. But wouldn't it be best to have these substances completely out of the water, even below the technically feasible limits? With a good water filter, you can significantly reduce or almost completely remove all pollutants, even those not even controlled by the Drinking Water Ordinance, such as pharmaceutical residues and microplastics.
4.) Taste: Filtered water simply tastes better. You automatically drink more. The flavors in coffee and tea also develop much better, and the vegetables in the pot retain their color longer and taste more intense.
There are plenty of other reasons, but that should suffice for now.
Next time we'll talk about which water filter is right for you.
