We're often asked about so-called portable water filters: "Are they even useful, they're so small. Can I really drink any water filtered with them?"
First of all, yes, these filters do have some benefits. However, they won't produce healthy, vital water. The primary goal here is survival; viruses, bacteria, and other germs are safely removed. If the water filter also has a pre-filter with activated carbon, organic pollutants are also reduced.
In the wilderness or in an emergency, this provides drinkable, vital water. However, this water is not comparable to the "wellness" water that can be produced with a home water filter and cannot replace a reverse osmosis system, for example.
